ABOUT

What is Chiropractic?

Since its discovery in 1895 the fundamental principles upon which chiropractic is based have changed little. However what have changed are the levels of skill and knowledge that today’s chiropractors possess. BCA chiropractors have all graduated from an internationally accredited college after a minimum of five years full-time training and all are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (the body which administers the Chiropractic Act 1994).

Chiropractic specialises in diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions which are due to mechanical dysfunction of joints, particularly of the spine and their effects on the nervous system.

Chiropractic’s primary goal is not simply to alleviate the pain that is often experienced in and around the back, although that is often one of the beneficial side-effects of chiropractic care. Instead chiropractors strive to ensure that the complex “communicationsuperhighway” within the spinal column called the nervous system, is able to accurately relay information back and forth between all parts of the body.

What you can expect during treatment.

Chiropractors use a number of different techniques including manipulation to the joints of the spine or other areas of the body. Most often this involves a short impulse to the joint, bringing relief of symptoms. Other techniques are diversified adjustments, dry needling and soft tissue techniques.

The other technique this clinic specialises in is Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT). SOT is a new comprehensive and advanced concept of chiropractic. Pioneered and developed through study, research and clinical application by Dr M.B.DeJarnette, for more than half a century Dr DeJarnette researched and studied every aspect of physiology and anatomy to clinically find that the human distortion falls into three basic groups. He labelled these groups as Categories I, II and III. All our Chiropractors are Advanced SOT certified and Clare and Helen are certified Craniopaths.
